Rishi Sunak Faces Uphill Battle as UK Election Looms

In the UK general election, the Conservative Party is struggling with the burden of poor performance during its previous tenure. In such a situation, Indian-origin Rishi Sunak is standing at the forefront and leading a challenging political battle.

It was now a few days to the general election in Britain in the year 2024. When a few days before the election the country’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak urged people to ‘just get on and have a vote and once you’ve made up your mind you cannot change it Do not do anything you will regret,’ he was indeed serious.

As it is seen in most pre-poll opinion polls the Labour Party with Keir Starmer as the opposition party enjoys a comfortable lead while the incumbent’s Conservative Party with Rishi Sunak is massively trailing behind.

Taking the office of the British Prime Minister when the Conservative Party or the Tories faced many challenges, Sunak succeeded to lift the morale of the party. He knew not only became the first Hindu premiere of Britain but also the young premiere in more than 200 years as he took the position at 42 years of age. The Prime Minister, who has been campaigning non-stop, now has his cross set on Britain’s vote.

On Thursday (July 4), millions of citizens engage themselves in the balloting in 650 franchises in the England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and after that Keir Starmer is going to become the future PM.

Currently, Sunak who decided on early elections altered his election campaign approach in the past few weeks. He seemed to set aside the ambition for another five-peat win, and concentrated on the prediction of the downside of a renewed supermajority Labour Party.

It has even been predicted that the worst performance in this election that a political party could record since its formation in the year 1834 will be recorded by the Conservative Party.

We have to see how much of this Rishi Sunak is able to prevent from happening, and what happens to him after the elections.
